apples, apples everywhere

Well, fall is really here.
Apples are everywhere.
I not much of an apple expert
but  I love picking up the small ones
and especially ones I’ve never had before.
At my local (Oak Park) market
there is a vendor that has different apples each week.

 It’s just fun.

Here's hoping you find many fun moments this weekend.

My First Pair of TOMS

My first pair of TOMS.

A week or so ago I admired my nephews shoes,
he told they were TOMS
and told about the TOMS movement.
Finally noticed Whole Foods carried them
and immediately chose a pair.
Do you know the story about TOMS?
Each time you buy a pair of TOMS
a pair of TOMS will also be sent to a child in need
somewhere in the world.

 Pretty cool.

Lantana is one of my favorite annuals.
When the flower is fully in bloom
it looks like a cheery snow cone.
So perfect.
It’s hard to believe it’s a real flower.

Romanesco Broccoli

One of the vegetables
I look forward to seeing
is the Romanesco Broccoli .
 It looks more like something
you would find on the ocean floor
rather than the farmers market.

It appears to be a cross
between cauliflower and broccoli.
The texture is cauliflower
but the flavor is broccoli.
Something fun to add variety
your dinner plate.

Morning Glory

Morning Glory and Rue

My neighbor grew Morning Glories by seed a few years ago.

Ever since then both of our gardens
have had morning glories popping up everywhere.
While they do threaten to choke out our existing plants
it's hard to be upset about a plant
that produces such a beautiful blue flower
each morning.

Seattle - Pike Place Market

Just back from a long weekend in Seattle.
The weather was fantastic
(are you sure it rains in Seattle?)
and the sites breathtaking.

Here are a few photos  of one of the (many) visits to

There was a peaceful moment
of sitting outside a Starbucks,
in the sun
and watching the constant stream of visitors
to the market.
